Sometimes you don’t realize the severity of what you’ve been through.
Wondering why that person couldn’t see the beauty inside of you.
You’ve been lied to so many times,
“This is who you are”,
And the falsified information has carried you this far.
Now your body is covered in invisible scars,
Every single one, a memoir.
Every single scar is telling a story,
But there’s too many to go through the inventory,
Because of the recollections that they bring.
Wishing you could just start over to the days on the playground swings,
When you believed that you could fly.
Before they clipped your wings, and before your heart cried.
Nothing but poison spewed from their mouth, and the times you needed love the most,
They handed you nothing but doubts.
When you were thirsty, you drank from the spout.
I know you still love them, despite what they’ve done to you,
But you need to fly away, angel, because they never loved you too.
Because, if they did, love, patience, and kindness, with it they would cover you.
They wouldn’t let you drink till you drown,
Or manipulate your smiles into frowns,
Or make you feel guilty for straightening out your crown.
Sometimes, I want to ask you why,
But there’s truly no use,
Because nothing but scars have come from loving you.
And now I have flown away, out of your view,
And into the sunset, with every breeze, I’m made anew.
Let it shine now, honey, let it shine,
Because you have escaped to a brand-new life just in time!
Keep soaring, darling, and don’t give up until you see the coastline.
